‘Pocket Shaman’ explores the possibility of mystical powers within new technologies - imagining a world where a smartphone is our spirit guide. Never before have we had such direct access to powers that would traditionally belong only to the realm of science fiction, religion, mystics, and shamans. For example, Facetime and Skype are almost a form of telepathy in the way they can connect us with people all around the world and apps like Instagram, Google maps, and Facebook gives us the ability to see and know things far beyond what has been traditionally humanly possible. Virtual reality could be considered an out-of-body experience and 3D printing might be the closest thing we have to teleportation. Using both new and old methods ‘Pocket Shaman’ will experiment with the power of technology; exploring the hidden algorithms between us and the new world we are creating.
